Houston, We've got a problem.
NASA needs to train planet Mars explorers in planet Earth environments.
Problem-Training on Earth
While on Earth the explorers inside the suits must be able to move to safely interact with the simulated Mars environment, their habitat and their research projects. NASA training on Earth for living on Mars requires isolation suits that can be comfortably worn by astronauts for long periods of time, day after day, week after week.
“Even the best in the business don’t have all the answers.”
Solution-Make by Hand curiosity
Like the NASA engineers, the RISD students and faculty are always asking themselves to find solutions to problems they encounter.
Why would NASA call in another creative source?
NASA engineers are always presented with new challenges. As engineers they are used to solving big problems. These people are smart but they can’t know everything.
A different point-of-view often leads to new problems, but also can lead to new solutions, and new results.
So a logical pairing of RISD and NASA who have similar ways of thinking had some big payoffs! The make by hand curiosity of RISD students brings solutions to NASA.
What would be your creative solution to your make by hand effort?
